Tolerance of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender, LGBT, community is on the rise in Jamaica. That’s according to a survey commissioned by the Jamaica Forum for Lesbians, All-Sexual and Gays, J-FLAG.
The survey, which was done last December, found 25% of Jamaicans to be tolerant to the LGBT community.
Executive Director of the advocacy group, Jaevion Nelson, says he’s encouraged by the results of the survey.00:0000:35
According to the report, Westmoreland is the most tolerant parish in the country, where 31% of people have positive attitudes toward the LGBT community. St. Ann has the second highest tolerance with 23%.
Kingston and St. Andrew follows with a 22% tolerance rate.
Mr. Nelson says despite the positive results of the survey, more can be done.
